Angel Fire and the Moreno Valley are abundant with birds and wildlife. Mule deer, white-tail deer, elk, and bear can be observed in the valley area and on the mountain trails. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a mountain lion or bobcat. Chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons also abound in the wooded areas.
Elk Herds
This area is home to one of the largest elk herds in the United States. You can often see large numbers of elk in the Valley of the Utes subdivision and in the early morning and at dusk, they frequently come down into the valley areas. Especially in springtime and fall you can often sit along the roadside and watch hundreds of elk grazing on the Angel Fire Resort golf course.
