Community Partners Team Up Again to Beautify Median
Tuesday, June 7 Angel Fire Proud, Angel Fire Garden Club and the folks at Keller Williams Angel Fire will partner again to beautify the median strip on North Angel Fire Road. Volunteers from all three organizations will plant, weed and deadhead perennials as a part of an annual community initiative.
The median strip project began in 1991 as the Angel Fire Garden Club’s first civic development project. "It has evolved into one of our Angel Fire Garden Club’s signature gardens," said Johnese Turri, Angel Fire Garden Club president and member of Angel Fire Proud. The median strip community collaboration won the Garden Club top honors in the Civic Development category in a statewide awards contest this year.
The Village of Angel Fire won a grant from New Mexico Clean & Beautiful to enhance community properties around Angel Fire. The median strip project has received $800 from this grant. Members of Angel Fire Proud and the Angel Fire Garden Club will purchase by a variety of native, water wise, flowering perennials from local Pacheco's High Country Nursery.
"The Angel Fire Proud partnership with the Angel Fire Garden Club was a match made in heaven on this on-going project," said Bill Humbert, Angel Fire Proud chairman. "Our mission is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for our village's beautification. And the participation of Keller Williams, their 5th year, on their annual RED Day* effort takes the median strip to new heights!"
Volunteers are welcome to help out. Meet at Keller Williams (next to the Angel Fire Center) at 9 a.m. Bring gardening gloves, trowels and your own water. Angel Fire Proud volunteers are asked to wear their blue shirts and Keller Williams are asked to wear their red shirts.
